Ready
Google Play Store icon: 512×512
Google Play requires a single 512×512 PNG or JPEG icon for every Android app submission. The file size cap is 1024 KB, and the icon must be opaque (no transparency). Google applies its own launcher masking — by default a circle, but adaptive icons can opt into square or squircle masks per device.
The 512×512 spec
Play Console accepts a 512×512 32-bit PNG (no alpha) or JPEG, max 1024 KB. The icon is downsampled for every launcher (adaptive icons at 108×108, legacy at 48×48, etc.) so a single 512×512 master is all you need.
Adaptive icon safe area
Google's adaptive icon spec crops your icon based on the device's launcher mask — circle on Pixel, squircle on Samsung One UI, rounded square on some others. Design with the central 66% of your icon as the focal area; the outer 34% may be cropped on some devices.
Play Console spec details
Google Play Console currently accepts:
File type: PNG (preferred, 32-bit, no alpha) or JPEG
Pixel dimensions: 512×512 exactly
Max file size: 1024 KB
Color space: sRGB
Mask: applied by launcher at runtime
Frequently asked questions
Can I upload an SVG icon? No — only PNG and JPEG. SVG icons are not supported in Play Console as of 2026.
Why does my icon look cropped on Samsung? Samsung One UI uses a tighter squircle mask than Pixel. Keep the central subject within 66% of the frame to be safe across launchers.
